I almost cancelled this trip three times. Visa confusion, budget fears, and a complete lack of travel companions. But Bali had other plans — and I am so glad it did. After landing at Ngurah Rai Airport on a humid Tuesday evening, I honestly did not know what to expect. I had read hundreds of blogs, watched dozens of reels, and still felt completely unprepared. What followed was seven days that genuinely changed the way I think about solo travel. Day 1 & 2: Ubud — Where Everything Slows Down Ubud is the kind of place that sneaks up on you. You go expecting rice terraces and yoga retreats, and you get those — but you also get tiny warungs serving the best nasi goreng of your life, families walking home from temple in full ceremonial dress, and a quiet that feels earned rather than imposed. The Tegallalang rice terraces are as photogenic as Instagram says, but go before 8am. By 9:30 the tour groups arrive and the magic fades fast. I rented a scooter for ₹400 a day and covered more ground than I could have imagined. Day 3: Chasing Waterfalls Near Munduk This was my favourite day. I hired a driver (about ₹2,500 for the full day) and we drove north into the highlands. Munduk has four waterfalls within a short hike of each other. The trails are slippery and your shoes will be ruined. Worth every bit of it. Day 4 & 5: Seminyak — Sun, Surf, and Reality Checks Seminyak is where Bali shows its other face. Rooftop bars, designer boutiques, beach clubs with ₹1,500 cocktails. It is beautiful and a little overwhelming after the serenity of Ubud. I stayed two nights, which was enough. Catch the sunset at La Plancha — arrive early and grab a beanbag on the sand. Day 6: Uluwatu & the Kecak Fire Dance The drive to Uluwatu takes you along cliff roads with ocean views that make you pull over every five minutes. The Kecak dance at sunset is genuinely moving — not a tourist trap, but a real performance with real energy. Buy tickets in advance (around ₹500). Day 7: Do Absolutely Nothing My last day was spent doing nothing deliberate. I sat at a café in Canggu with a coconut and watched Bali go about its morning. That is the real gift of this island — it gives you permission to just be. Budget Summary: 7 nights including flights from Delhi — ₹58,000 per person. Not luxury, not backpacker. Just right.
